Light in a parallel universe
A successful rock’n’roll history

While Adam had to start providing for his family at a very young age, his friends pursued their mutual passion for rock music. They established bands such as Cow Pie, Kursaal Fliers and Eddie & The Hot Rods. A friend of Adam’s happened to work for the British contract manufacturer of cases for Harrison amplifiers, Hi-Watt and Orange Speaker boxes. Through this contact, Adam was invited to have an informal chat about making an offer for loudspeaker castors – and to his great surprise, he got the job. That was the moment Adam Hall Supplies Ltd. came into being. Adam Hall was now the UK’s first niche supplier of components for the music equipment industry. When delivering case parts, he got to know a certain David Kirby.

British musician David Kirby had discovered Germany while on tour and ended up staying in the country, founding a subsidiary of Adam Hall Supplies Ltd. in the Hesse town of Taunus, which became the German Adam Hall GmbH. From its humble, originally British origins, the business grew into an international company over the next few decades. David played a key role in shaping the brand for over 33 years as its CEO before he handed over the reins to Alexander Pietschmann and Markus Jahnel in 2013.

Long before the Internet, ERP systems or CRM standards even existed, the Adam Hall Group was already making use of digital tools. A Nixdorf Comet Top laid the foundation for today’s IT-focused setup. This is just one of the many indications that we have always believed in being at the forefront of technological progress.

To ensure that we could maintain our quality assurance, competitiveness and relationships with our manufacturers and supplier network, Adam Hall GmbH set up its own procurement offices in Taiwan and China in 1986.

Markus Jahnel was already associated with David Kirby and the company as far back as the 1980s. Eventually he took on a permanent role in the sales department in 1990. He drove forward the development of product lines and sales with dedication and expertise, becoming a defining figure in the DNA of Adam Hall. Jahnel started in sales, both in-house and in the field, and his career steadily progressed through various positions until he achieved the position he holds today: Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) of the Adam Hall Group.

Following its initial relocation in 1983 to Usingen, Adam Hall GmbH moved to Neu-Anspach in 1990. A few years later, the company even got its own street: Adam-Hall-Straße.

Palmer® joined the Adam Hall family in 1990. Founded by Martin Schmitz in 1980, Palmer® grew to become an internationally renowned name in the music and audio industry. Palmer was the first port of call for expert repairs, individual modifications and special extras for instruments and amplifiers. Being able to communicate directly with musicians provided valuable insights into the needs and requirements of musicians and audio professionals.

Adam Hall becomes the exclusive distribution partner of Eminence, the world's largest loudspeaker manufacturer. A partnership that will continue for decades until 2022.

In this year, David Kirby took over the British limited company and made Neu-Anspach the official company headquarters, thus setting the course for international growth.

With DEFENDER® cable protectors, Adam Hall set a new benchmark in safety. Designed and made in Germany, the Defender® products, which are patented worldwide, were mainly used at rock concerts at first. They soon became essential for the industry, trade and public institutions.

Adamhall.com went online. With a B2B web shop for dealers and flight case manufacturers, the company was one of the digital pioneers in the industry. It is very hard to believe now, but back then online retail was an absolute novelty for wholesalers and manufacturers.

LD Systems® conquered the stage. Within just a few years, our audio brand had grown into an international player with award-winning audio solutions. Even back then, our LD product lines were developed in Germany and used worldwide.

Alex on board: even while a commercial law student, Alexander Pietschmann was incredibly passionate about events and established two start-ups in the field. After joining Adam Hall in 2006, he was initially responsible for establishing the marketing and IT department. In subsequent years, he took on more and more responsibility for the strategic development of the company with his trademark passion and commitment, and has now been CEO of the Adam Hall Group since 2013.

2008 - Room for growth
A milestone: the new European logistics centre on Daimlerstraße meant that all the company’s activities could be centred in one place, creating the space needed for growth. The new European logistics centre of Adam Hall GmbH comprised a space of approx. 20,000 m², including a 6,500 m² warehouse, 1,000 m² for value added services and 2,500 m² over three floors for administration and a showroom.

Cameo® Light makes the events industry brighter – with innovative LED solutions for every size and scale. Within just a few years, Cameo® Light has become a major brand in the field of professional lighting equipment. With a portfolio comprising state-of-the-art LED lighting products and accessories for a wide variety of applications, from small clubs and architectural projects to complex rigs at large events.

After 33 years at the helm, David Kirby handed over the reins but remained with the company as Executive Chairman. Markus Jahnel and Alexander Pietschmann became the new managing directors of the Adam Hall Group and acquired a stake in the company as part of an MBO. The dawn of a new era.

The “World’s Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band of All Time”, The Rolling Stones, collaborated with Adam Hall. Together, we launched a strictly limited edition cable line onto the market. Not only did it bear the band’s name, but it also perfectly conveyed the band’s exacting standards, enabling it to meet the needs of enthusiastic musicians.

Adam Hall GmbH expanded into Asia. With the founding of Adam Hall Asia Pte Ltd in Singapore, the company started to increase its focus on the Asian market.

Adam Hall celebrated the opening of a branch in Singapore and showroom in Barcelona. In the new showroom, visitors were and still are presented with the entire world of Adam Hall brands across a sales area of approx. 1,000 m².

After two years of intensive development work with users and top designers, a sophisticated, expandable range of stands and accessories was created. With innovative features and designs, the Gravity® brand is revolutionising the accessories sector. The microphone stands have already won the internationally renowned Red Dot and IF awards in 2016.

As part of its internationalisation plan, Adam Hall presented itself as the Adam Hall Group for the first time. This new alignment was accompanied by a complete relaunch of the B2B web shop, a corporate website and a redesign of the international trade fair concept.

With the construction of two new building complexes at our headquarters in Neu-Anspach, the Adam Hall Group took a strategic step towards the future. The Logistics Park, with its improved quality management and value added services area, as well as the Experience Centre, has strengthened the service provision and appeal of the headquarters.

The new Logistics Park increased the existing storage capacity to a usable area of 14,000 m², creating 10,000 pallet spaces and 17,000 container storage spaces in the automated small parts warehouse. The new service centre now encompasses 400 m².

The new Experience Centre at Adam-Hall-Str. 1 was opened – for trade customers, partners, associations, staff and the industry. A fully equipped showroom, large auditorium, the rock ‘n’ library and the “Come Together” canteen delight visitors and staff alike. The integrated department for research and development is impressive, housing an anechoic measuring room, various endurance and climatic test rigs, a photometric laboratory and ample space for modelling and 3D prototyping.

The successful foundation of Adam Hall North America Inc. was a real milestone. This meant that the company and its event technology solutions now also had a presence in the USA and Canada. Following the merger with the former distribution partner Musical Distributors Group (MDG), the sales experience of the North American team was combined with the Group’s strengths in operations, logistics and marketing. For full service in North America.

Andreas Modschiedler became Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Adam Hall Group. In this newly created management position, he supported the executive team and was responsible for the IT and Research and Development departments. He also developed a forward-looking digitalisation strategy for the Adam Hall Group.

The pandemic was a major crisis for the live entertainment and event industry. Even at the start, one thing was crystal clear to us: we would only be able to get through it together. As a manufacturer of event technology, we saw ourselves as part of the bigger picture and therefore advocated for the entire events industry right from the beginning. Since March 2020, we have launched various formats. We have also supported a range of campaigns to help the entire events industry emerge stronger from this period. #WeBelieveInLive!
