QUESTRA controls audio and lighting at the Amington Hall Wedding Suites

Elegance, atmosphere and heartfelt emotion: the Amington Hall Wedding Suites in Birmingham, UK, offer the perfect setting for unforgettable weddings and events. With the spacious Amington Suite for up to 400 guests and the more intimate Serenity Suite for up to 200 people, the venue combines elegant design with maximum flexibility. Complemented by a foyer, bridal room and a spacious garden area, it creates a comprehensive wedding experience – from the initial preparations to the big moment itself. To meet these requirements on a technical level, AV integrator HPI Building Services created an integrated audio and lighting solution based on LD Systems and Cameo – controlled via the central LD Systems QUESTRA software platform.

Zone control via QUESTRA

At Amington Hall, QUESTRA acts as the central control solution for the entire audio distribution system in the building and enables simple, intuitive touch operation via tablet. All audio sources are consolidated in QUESTRA and distributed to the various indoor and outdoor zones via the IPA 424 T DSP installation amplifiers. In tandem with the integrated X-ECI Ethernet interface cards, all components can communicate seamlessly with one another and be routed flexibly.

The combination of CFL 62 in-ceiling speakers, DQOR5 wall-mounted speakers and MAUI i1 column speakers ensures uniform, clear sound coverage throughout all areas – from background music in the foyer to speech transmission during wedding speeches. The setup is complemented by an RSMP streaming media player for content playback and a U508 wireless microphone system for mobile live applications.

Sophisticated system design for maximum flexibility

One challenge was to design the audio distribution system flexibly enough to allow content from any suite to be transmitted to any zone. Instead of relying on fixed wall-mounted control panels, the project team opted for mobile control via tablet. “With the iPad solution, we were able to greatly simplify the complex signal distribution whilst simultaneously improving user-friendliness,” explains Imran Malik of HPI Building Services. This kind of flexibility is particularly crucial at weddings, where procedures and requirements are constantly changing throughout the day – from the arrival of guests through to dinner and finally the party.

Lighting highlights for emotional moments

In addition to audio technology, lighting design also plays a pivotal role. The Amington Suite features Cameo MOVO BEAM 200 beam moving heads as well as a single AZOR S2 spot moving head mounted centrally on the ceiling. The latter performs a special task: it accompanies the bride and groom as they enter the hall and highlights them for maximum effect. The precise control and high light output ensure an impressive, emotional moment that perfectly underscores the start of the celebration.
