Motorworld Inn Mallorca relies on LD Systems audio installation

Rich bass instead of engine noise

With the opening of Motorworld Mallorca, the Balearic island is now home to an extraordinary place that combines automotive passion with lifestyle, gastronomy and event culture. On the 80,000 sq. m site of a former Coca-Cola factory located right by the MA-19 motorway between the airport and Palma, an interactive experience has been created, complete with freely accessible exhibition areas for classic cars, super sports cars and motorbikes, high-quality catering concepts, shops and versatile event spaces. The iLUX Veranstaltungstechnik team from Germany is responsible for the media technology equipment in the catering areas at the heart of the recently opened complex – namely the Motorworld restaurant and Motomio coffee bar – complete with a customised audio and sound system from LD Systems.

The order was placed with iLUX via the catering company Rauschenberger, which already works with the Motorworld Group at several locations. “We have a long-standing partnership with Rauschenberger,” explains Enrico Rocca from iLUX. “After successfully equipping the Motorworld Inn in Munich with technology, we were also approached for the new project at Motorworld Mallorca.”

Simple, intuitive, functional

At the centre of the customer’s requirements was a powerful yet intuitive audio solution. “Above all, it was important to the customer that the technology made everyday catering easier, not more complicated,” comments Enrico Rocca. Staff – such as those at the bar, for example – should be able to spontaneously control the music without having to rely on technical support. At the same time, the speakers had to be integrated as unobtrusively as possible into the existing design concept and still be able to provide powerful sound for the entire area. This task is performed by the LD Systems DQOR 5 installation speakers in combination with a few strategically placed CURV 500 I SUB 10'' subwoofers for fixed installation use. The IPA 424 T 4-channel DSP installation amplifiers are used for amplification.

Flexible zone control

Based on the LD Systems ZONE X 1212 DSP matrix, iLUX divided the catering area at Motorworld Mallorca into a total of twelve separately controllable audio zones. These cover both the indoor and outdoor areas of the restaurant and the neighbouring café. “For the café, which has its own music and opening hours, we set up separate zones that can be controlled via an LD Systems QTP touchscreen. Music can be playing in the café while the restaurant is still quiet – ideal for preparations or team meetings.” Using the QTP 5 and QTP 8 screens, staff can control the volume, select signal sources or call up pre-programmed scenes at the touch of a finger. The content is played via two LD Systems RSMP radio streaming media players.

Installing the products on location’s exposed concrete ceilings posed a particular challenge. In order to mount the DQOR speakers as unobtrusively and securely as possible, iLUX used specially painted threaded rods and custom-fit brackets from the LD Systems portfolio. “With the LD Systems solutions, we were able to cover all customer requirements from a single source – from speakers and mounts to zone mixers, power amplifiers and streaming players.
