Cameo illuminates the Torre Jaume I

Barcelona lights up at every corner during the Christmas season. The Torre Jaume I – a 107-metre steel lattice tower that serves as a support pillar for the aerial tramway to the local Montjuïc mountain – stood out in particular. In order to offer visitors to the Christmas market at the base of the tower a special visual highlight, the team from event technology service provider Aven-Pro illuminated the colossal steel structure with numerous Cameo ZENIT® and OTOS® fixtures on several levels.

"The illuminated tower is part of a music and light show and should be reminiscent of a Christmas tree and be visible from anywhere in the city," explains Aleix Albanell from Aven-Pro. The full-service provider from the Barcelona province was responsible for planning, designing and implementing the project from the outset, including the custom production of four LED stars, each six metres in diameter, which shone in all directions at the top of the tower. "The biggest challenge was the 100-metre-high steel structure. We thought long and hard about the best setup to cover this large area. The ZENIT® W600 SMD then fully convinced us with their exceptional light output and colour quality as well as their compact size."

Aven-Pro placed the SMD LED outdoor wash lights on several levels around the Torre Jaume I, utilising the existing steel struts to bathe the tower in light from all sides. The OTOS® H5 IP65 Beam-Spot-Wash Hybrid Moving Heads were mounted on totems on the intermediate platform and on cross beams on the top platform, projecting powerful beams into the sky above Barcelona's harbour.

"The OTOS® H5 are excellent beam tracers and impressed us even on foggy days," confirms Aleix. "With their IP65 protection rating, we were able to use the lights without additional covers, which was particularly advantageous for this construction, parts of which are difficult to access. Thanks to its versatility, we will also be able to use the OTOS® H5 at a wide range of events in the future."
