New sound system at Guangzhou Foreign Language School in China

Guangzhou Foreign Language School (GFS) is one of the first public foreign language schools in the People's Republic of China. Pupils can learn English, German, French, Japanese, Russian and other languages on the extensive campus. One of the largest rooms at the GFS is a 500 m2 auditorium with a large LED wall, which was recently equipped with a new sound system. Working together with the Chinese distributor Eatrend Audiovisual Technology, the operators opted for an LD Systems MAILA L system in combination with LD Systems STINGER 8A G3 loudspeakers.

"The previous system was a conventional line array with double 8ʺ elements that, due to its size, obstructed the clear view of the LED screen at the back of the stage," explains Caleb Cai, Marketing Director at Eatrend Audiovisual Technology. "The customer needed a system that was both more compact and more powerful. In the end, the choice fell on MAILA from LD Systems." The flown MAILA arrays, each consisting of six MAILA SAT array satellites and a MAILA COL column speaker element with integrated power amplifier, cover the ground-level, slightly ascending rows of seats, while STINGER 8A G3s provide targeted sound reinforcement for the upper tier. The subwoofers are four MAILA SUBs with 2x15ʺ floor speakers.

Eatrend Audiovisual Technology used a combination of EASE Focus and the MAILA app to simulate and calculate the sound coverage, from which the final system configuration was derived. "We carried out numerous calculations in the first phase of the project and ultimately decided in favour of MAILA L as a result." The MAILA app in particular, with its simulation and setup options, left a lasting impression on the team: "The MAILA app is the best control software I've ever seen," says Caleb Cai. "It's easy to operate, and you can work offline and rectify errors with just one tap. The perfect solution for us."

Installing the MAILA arrays also posed no challenges for Eatrend Audiovisual Technology: "Thanks to the combination of compact loudspeakers and sophisticated mounting solutions, the system can be installed by just two people in ten minutes," says Caleb Cai. In addition to the permanently installed MAILA L, there are already plans to add another mobile MAILA system to further expand the range of applications at Guangzhou Foreign Language School.
