Multi-zone audio for Hotel Princeps in Hungary

Nature, panorama and architecture – the newly opened Hotel Princeps in Sátoraljaújhely, Hungary, combines all these qualities in an impressive way. Surrounded by ancient forests at the foot of the castle hill in the Zemplén Mountains, this elegant hotel offers views as far as the Slovakian border. With 50 rooms, four luxurious suites, a wellness area with panoramic pool and the exclusive Altus Skybar, the Princeps is one of the region’s flagship hotels. AV integrator AV SONIC Ltd. was commissioned with the audio planning and implementation in the various hotel areas and opted for a multi-zone audio system based on installation solutions from LD Systems.

The initial design for the hotel originally included a different audio solution that did not use any LD Systems products. However, AV SONIC project manager Péter Hodován and his team were able to convince the client of an optimised overall concept that relied entirely on the broad LD Systems portfolio. “It was important to us to design a system that meets modern technical requirements and is easy to use at the same time,” explains Péter Hodován. The close cooperation with Balázs Sólyomi, Account Manager for Hungary at the Adam Hall Group – who supported the project through all its phases, from conception, product selection and programming to the installation and set-up on site – was a great help.

Multi-zone audio

For the Princeps Hotel, the team developed a multi-zone audio system with a clear separation of tasks: in the interior areas – lobby, corridors, restaurant – discreet CICS 62 ceiling loudspeakers provide a comprehensive background sound system. For the outdoor area and the wellness area, the team opted for the weatherproof 70/100 V 2-way installation speakers from the DQOR series in 5" and 8". The Altus Skybar was given its own setup consisting of MAUI i1 column speakers and IP65-capable DQOR SUB 8" subwoofers, which also offer sufficient reserves for smaller live music events.

DANTE control via touch

The audio is distributed via an LD Systems ZONE X 1212 D DSP matrix processor, supplemented by several IPA 424 T DSP installation power amplifiers, a DSP 44 K DSP power amplifier and a DIO 22 Dante interface. Two RSMP radio streaming media players act as content players. The entire control system and signal distribution in the hotel is based on Dante Audio and can be operated quickly and intuitively by the hotel staff via three QTP 8 touch panels distributed throughout the building. AV SONIC also used the LD Systems QUESTRA design and management software for preset selection of the speakers, including the internal signal routing in the IPA amplifiers.

Fast implementation under time pressure

The team only had a few weeks from the approval date of the final plans to the opening of the hotel. The installation phase, including cable laying, device installation and system programming, took just two weeks. “I am very proud of our team, which included BoPe Design, who were responsible for the on-site installation, as well as Adam Hall Integrated Systems,” comments Péter Hodován. “We realised the project efficiently and smoothly despite the tight time frame.” Challenges such as large stone walls in the wellness area or architecturally demanding installation areas were mastered without any problems thanks to forward-looking planning and the appropriate, standardised choice of products.
