Cameo at A Summer Story Festival 2025

EDM in the City of Rock

When summer begins in Madrid, the greats of electronic music meet in the “Ciudad del Rock” (City of Rock). From 20 to 21 June 2025, A Summer Story Festival once again attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the 200,000 m2 open-air site outside Madrid, which was originally designed for the first Spanish edition of the Rock in Rio festival. For two days, 60,000 EDM fans partied to the sounds of headliners such as Hardwell, Nicky Romero and Afrojack – accompanied by a spectacular lighting and stage design, for which the Spanish event technology service provider Fluge Audiovisuales once again relied on Cameo. This year, Fluge opted for the flexible PIXBAR SMD IP G2 IP65 SMD LED bars and the tried-and-tested ZENIT W600 outdoor LED wash lights.

For Pedro Campos, Light Producer at Fluge Audiovisuales, it was clear from the outset that the lighting design for A Summer Story had to do more than just accompany the film. “The lighting plays a narrative, emotional and scenic role,” explains Pedro Campos. “Each stage is its own cosmos with an individual visual identity.” The decision in favour of Cameo was made not least due to the high reliability of the IP65-certified devices: “At an outdoor festival like A Summer Story, the lighting technology is exposed to extreme conditions: heat, dust, humidity, long running times and quick changeovers. This is precisely where Cameo has been offering us maximum security and stability for many years.”

Precise lines, homogeneous surfaces

The Cameo fixtures were mainly used on stages 2 and 3. Pedro Campos and his team positioned the PIXBAR SMD IP G2 primarily at the edges of the stage and along the LED walls. In this way, the LED bars not only created contouring lines, but were also used for stroboscopic accents and elaborate pixel mapping effects that reacted directly to the beat. “The PIXBARs are modular and also extremely compact, making them easy to integrate into complex stage structures,” comments Pedro Campos.

The ZENIT W600 LED wash lights acted as wide-area light sources and impressed the Fluge team above all with their homogeneous colour coverage. They were positioned both frontally towards the audience and to the side of the stages in order to emphasise large areas and the stage architecture. “We also used the ZENIT W600 specifically as an ambient blinder – for drops or transitions, for example, when the whole scene was supposed to explode in a sea of light,” explains Pedro Campos.

Seamless integration

For Pedro Campos and his team, efficient integration was also crucial: “Both models integrated seamlessly into the overall lighting setup – this makes live operation much easier, especially when guest lighting designers bring their own shows with them.” For Pedro Campos, it is crucial to provide the artists with the best possible support.
