Immersive sound art installation with LD Systems MAUI P900

On 17 February, renowned US sound artist Max Eilbacher and German DJ and composer Phillip Sollmann took the stage of the Neuer Aachener Kunstverein and opened their collaborative sound installation “Kalkül der Form”. The optical and acoustic framework was provided by eight LD Systems MAUI P900 column PA systems, which created an immersive sound space for the visitors and embodied the symbiotic union of sound and space. The event technology service provider JOY event & media from Aachen was responsible for setting up and installing the MAUI P900 on site.

“Kalkül der Form” consists of two interwoven compositions that sound simultaneously as “long durational pieces” and together form an immersive sound installation that extends over two rooms and floors. The function of the speakers used differs fundamentally. While the eight MAUI P900s arranged in a circle on the ground floor reproduce precisely localisable musical voices and elements, the loudspeaker installation on the upper floor creates floating sounds that interact with the reflections of the room.

In addition, the beautiful and timeless design of the MAUI P900 blended seamlessly into the aesthetics of the installation.” The result: a harmonious fusion of form and function that appealed to all the visitors’ senses and blurred the boundaries between art and technology.

The exhibition “Kalkül der Form” took place from 17 February to 24 March at Neuer Aachener Kunstverein. For a second live performance on 2 March, additional acoustic instruments were integrated into the soundscape of the MAUI P900.
